--DISSIDENTS--
November 2nd, 2007

The reception is on Friday, Nov 2nd, 2007, from 6-9 PM during the citywide First Friday Art Trail. This is a one night event, free and open to the public.

DISSIDENTS

Friday, Nov 2nd, 2007 - 6:00-9:00 PM
Art Depot Annex - 1703 Texas Avenue
Music will be provided by
Los S.O.B’s
The event will be sponsored by Art Depot & Lubbock businesses.

Dissidents will showcase the rebellious, spirited art of Texas. We want bombastic work that captures the dry, quirky, cantankerous irreverence that typifies West Texas. (I’m talking about being hung-over in church on Sunday morning.) Art Depot Annex is requesting art that realizes the contradictory nature of Texas and celebrates these discrepancies as strengths.

We want art that is so tongue-in-cheek you would think it has a chaw in. Art that never accepts the status quo, so it is always fightin’. We are continuing our longstanding tradition of being the last outpost of raucous raconteurs and ornery outlaws. Let us continue this tradition in respect (or without respect) to the arts.

Art Depot would enjoy your input on artists who should participate in Dissidents.  If you know of a Texas artist who can open our minds with humor while holding our attention with a rebellious spirit please contact Ryder Richards at the Art Depot Gallery with images and artist information. (contact information below)

Please submit your requests by June 30th, 2007. Thank you for your time and involvement in furthering Texas art!

In the infamous words of Butch Hancock: “Life in Lubbock, Texas, taught me two things: One is that God loves you and you're going to burn in hell. The other is that sex is the most awful, filthy thing on earth and you should save it for someone you love.”
