Opening Reception: 6-9 PM Friday, Jan 4th, 2008
ART DEPOT presents the ACT NATURAL CYCLE- An Exploration of Boys & Birds,
recent works by Val Brown. The exhibition is a contemplation of the ideals of
our modern society and the equation of personal happiness based on regional
locations and the purchase of material possessions. The work explores a variety
of topics from the notion of true love to the homeless; and therefore spans
a variety of mediums including mixed media on canvas, digital scans and prints,
metal sculpture and objects found in nature. The work will be on exhibit at
ART DEPOT, 1717 Texas Ave., from January 4th through January 26th, 2008. The
opening reception is part of Lubbock's First Friday Art Trail, January 4th,
2008 from 6 - 9PM. This event is free and open to the public.
Val Brown recently moved to West Texas after spending a short time in New York City and a long time in Austin Texas. Brown attended Texas State University and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communication Design with an emphasis in Typography and Sculpture. Val Brown likes art books. typography. the letter g. metal sculpture. process. tuna and bacon sandwiches. asterisks. window shopping. spell check. happy accidents. good manners. wes anderson films. street art. coconuts. paper. rubber stamps. chain wallets. metaphors. stickers. personification. sleeping without pillows. the word "various". the inconvenience of rain.

The exhibition
can be seen from January 4th-26th, 2008. The reception is part of the citywide
First Friday Art Trail on Friday, January 4th, 2008 from 6PM until 9PM.
