Cartógraphilia • works by Anne Longo

 May 4^th – May 25^th, 2007

ART DEPOT presents Cartógraphilia, works by Anne Longo.  Longo’s complex works continue to investigate the interrelation of mapping, perception, and imagery in her recent work.  The exhibition can be seen from Friday, May 4^th through May 25^th.  The reception is part of the citywide First Friday Art Trail on Friday, May 4^th, 2007 from 6PM until 9PM.  The exhibition is free and open to the public. 

“In recent years my work has reflected a persistent interest in the way a map can describe a geographical area, and how it can’t” says Longo. “By using maps to deconstruct the imagery of a photograph, a layer of meaning is inserted that reflects my perceptions of that place.  The deconstruction of the map, the photo and the painting is extended from the landscape to the plant life of my garden, the human body, and the imaginary surfaces that evolve from playing with purely topographical lines.”
