Art
Depot
presents
Michael Frels,
Rob Mears & Stacy Slaten in
Photographic Expansion.
Photography
is the beginning for these three unique artists to develop powerful imagery
offering a glimpse each artist’s concerns and views of reality. The exhibition
offers a celebration of the growth in the medium of photography and with that
growth the ability to further personalize the concept of the photograph. The
exhibition can be seen from Friday, March 2nd through
March
28th.
The reception is part of the
citywide First Friday Art Trail on Friday, March 2nd, 2007 from 6PM
until 9PM.
The exhibition is free and open to the public.
The three artists included in Photographic Expansion have created statements
that range from personal narrative, scientific inquiry, and social concerns with
stereotyping.
Michaels
Frels, whether working in multiple panel prints or small books, provides a
compelling narrative of intimate images.
Frels
says of his work “As a boy, I was more interested in creating things than making
friends. Uninspired by adulthood, I returned to my childhood. I took these
photographs while playing in my backyard.” Rob Mears constructs his own cameras
and develops his large prints in a manner that brings a surreal image into an
otherewise scientific process.
Stacy Slaten provides a look at the psychological
process of achieving redemption through recognition of pain. Slaten’s work is
concerned with “breaking cultural programming and stereotypes in order to
fulfill a personal identity”.
