Being lost can be very frustrating. You keep trying to find your way, but you do not advance or understand where you are. The tools that you have been using to find your way have not produced the results or answers that you expected from them. The more that you blindly trust the tool to do all the work for you, the bigger the hole you get yourself into. The connection that one can make with a tool when using or handling it can give the user a sense of pride, a connection to the material, a sense of power. These are all very positive views towards the interaction between the user and the tool, but what if the tool is cumbersome or not designed for maximum efficiency. This relationship between user and tool has switched from being positive to negative. What happens when the tool implies a function, but can not be used in the physical sense? What is it good for? The tool may not be able to function in the physical world, but it can now function in the mental world. The tool itself has now become the means of communication.
